Tea Journey: A FOMO Retrospective
Last month, I was joined by several wonderful people on an imaginative journey through my mother's home country of Taiwan. Our vehicle of choice? Five absolutely delicious Taiwan teas with equally rich flavor and stories.
We started off with a visit to Yuan Sen Applied Botanical Garden, an absolute delight for any plant nerds out there. Centered at this garden was, believe it or not, a hot pot restaurant that specialized in fresh herbs grown with natural farming methods right there at the botanical garden. The applied garden also made their own herbal tea blends, and we kicked off our tea journey with one of those.
Next we flew up into the cloudy mountainsides of Qin Jin Farm and sipped on a delicate and refreshing unroasted oolong. In tea journeys, I like to start with lighter, more delicate teas. Partially because these flavor profiles tend to get lost after drinking a darker, bolder tea, but also because lighter teas prepare our brave camellianauts for the ensuing caffeine rush. Getting tea drunk is totally a thing!
Taking a break from the countryside, I followed our trip into the cloudy "Alps" of Taiwan with a visit to the basement of a hotel in Taipei, introducing everyone to a wonderful old lady who runs a tea shop the size of a broom closet – and several steeps of Wenshen baozhong, an incredibly fresh and clean green tea.
To make a long journey short, we wrapped up our adventure with a spicy honey scented black tea from Qing Jing Farm, an outstanding oriental beauty oolong from our hotel basement tea lady, and an extra dark roasted red oolong.
FOMO Redemption!
If you're reading this thinking, "Hey that sounds pretty cool! I wish I could've gone . . ." then you're in luck! We're doing tea journeys every month and for September, we've got another Taiwan Tea Journey ready to roll.
This month, we'll be journeying to some of Taiwan's largest tea producing regions: Maokong, Alishan, and Sun Moon Lake to name a few.
Grab your tickets and join us Saturday, September 21st at 1pm!
